Alex Unruh

Alex Unruh is a photographer in Wichita specializing in commercial and event photography, video and social media curation. A man of endless curiosity, he relishes in how much he learns on the job, either by listening to speakers’ events or watching the behind-the-scenes of product creation — which has ranged from aircraft production lines to fruit pies (happily taste-tested in a new Wichita facility). His dream project? Documenting the behind-the-scenes life of a musician on a national tour.

Growing up, Alex had a natural inclination towards art and computers — techniques usually at odds — eventually finding that photography was where creativity and technology worked in harmony. He broke into the industry as a wedding photographer for over ten years before transitioning into more commercial work. Alex prides himself in a client-first mentality and, admittedly, thrives more in chaos than routine. Despite his creative outlet escalating to a career, Alex still finds his job more fun than “work.” He loves the challenge of translating the energy of an event or performance into a snapshot.

In his free time, Alex relishes the freedom of cycling and has been riding Biking Across Kansas since 2017. He is a native Kansan, a proud Thresher graduate of Bethel College and a hobby cyclist with the uncanny ability to complete 500-mile long tours without much training (it’s okay to hate him a bit for that). One day he hopes to conquer Ride the Rockies, one of the longest running bicycle tours in the country. In the meantime, he’ll travel (mechanically) to places as far away as Greece or as close by as Lindsborg, KS — always letting curiosity be his guide.
